Train service to resume on local Metro North lines

Metro North Railroad has resumed limited hourly service on the New Haven, Hudson, and Harlem lines this afternoon after electric trains were hobbled due to blowing snow and blizzard-like conditions.
The New Haven line will have a 12:52 p.m. train from Union Station in New Haven to Grand Central Terminal making all local stops, and a 1:07 p.m. train from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven making all local stops.
Service was initially suspended on all three of the railroad's lines after drifting snow covered the third rail stalling electric trains near the Mott Haven section of the Bronx,N.Y.

LIRR still suspended; MTA website sluggish

Long Island Rail Road passenger service was still suspended in both directions Monday morning as the nation's busiest commuter rail system worked to clear snow from its tracks.
"Right now, we have no estimate of when service will resume," spokesman Sam Zambuto said. "We're continuing to work at clearing the third rail and switches."
When service does resume, Zambuto said it would operate on a holiday schedule. Service was still suspended as of 9 a.m. Monday

MTA budget bloat

Infighting and faulty oversight has pushed the MTA's big-ticket megaprojects nearly $2 billion over budget and up to five years behind schedule, a damning new report says.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's extension of the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal may not be completed until April 2018, five years late, the report from MTA Inspector Barry Kluger found.
The LIRR link, the Second Ave. subway and the Fulton Transit Center projects, are a combined $1.93 billion over budget.
"The failure to complete megaprojects on time and within budget has raised serious concerns...and indicates a need for more effective oversight," the report said.

MTA station countdown clocks reach 100

NEW YORK - More subway customers than ever now benefit from knowing exactly when their train will arrive as countdown clocks have been activated in 100 stations along MTA New York City Transit’s numbered lines.  This milestone exceeds the MTA’s original goal to get 75 stations online by the end of the year.  A similar project to activate informational signs continues to progress along the lettered lines as well.

Customers using Manhattan’s Houston Street Station on the No. 1 Line are the latest to receive up-to-the-minute next train information that takes the guesswork out of how long the wait time will be.  The ambitious project to install Public Address/Customer Information Screens (PA/CIS), more popularly referred to as Countdown Clocks, in the system’s stations is changing the habits of subway riders every day.
