Therehere have been reports that Elizabeth Edwards actively (and realistically) thought about what would happen to her children if she died. One thing Elizabeth Edwards did not want in life after her death was for her three surviving children to have Rielle Hunter as a stepmom. So what did she do to try to ensure that this would never happen?
For one, she kept her younger children Emma (12) and Jack (10) far away from Rielle Hunter a source adding that “She doesn’t want Rielle anywhere near them.”
She was also concerned about having her estranged husband John Edwards have sole custody since he could someday marry Rielle Hunter (whom he has a child with) or that his travels would keep him away from home. Instead she reportedly had explored the option of having her 28-year-old daughter Cate Edwards raise them instead and that she “has been grooming Cate to take over.”
But a attorney in New York said that Elizabeth wouldn’t have that kind of option and that, “the father would have the paramount right to succeed to the custody of his natural children.
Whoever raises Elizabeth’s children, let’s hope they get all the love and support they need.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Roughly three years after Rielle Hunter (photos below) was revealed as the John Edward mistress, the scandal is far from over. A grand jury is still investigating campaign finances by former U.S. Senate John Edwards, the father of Rielle Hunter’s baby.
Hunter has testified in the grand jury matter. The grand jury’s investigation has been going on for nearly a year in Raleigh. Edwards has denied any wrongdoing.
But the history of John Edwards in handing the Rielle Hunter scandal has not been consistent.Over three years ago, the National Enquirer broke that Rielle Hunter scandal. But in July 2008, the scandal erupted again. The Enquirer then claimed Hunter allegedly drove to the Beverly Hilton Hotel from Santa Barbara with a friend to meet Edwards at a Los Angeles Mayor’s event on homelessness. “After we confronted him about seeing Rielle, Edwards looked like a deer caught in headlights,” said Enquirer Senior Reporter Alexander Hitchen. The Enquirer claimed Edwards hid from them once inside the Hotel.  At the time, the story seemed too tabloid. Mainstream news media had skipped coverage previously and  in July 2008.
And then came the erroneous denials. Edwards and Hunter both called the Enquirer report false. First, Hunter said “The innuendos and lies that have appeared on the internet and in the National Enquirer concerning John Edwards are not true, completely unfounded and ridiculous. My video production company was hired by the Edwards camp on a 6 month contract, which we completed December 31, 2006. When working  for the Edwards camp, my conduct as well as the conduct of my entire team was completely professional. This concocted story is just dirty politics and I want no part of it.”

Elizabeth Edwards stops cancer treatment, releases statement

(CNN) - Elizabeth Edwards is surrounded by family and friends in her North Carolina home after being informed by her doctors that further cancer treatment would be unproductive.

"Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive," the Edwards family said Monday in a statement. "She is resting at home with family and friends and has posted this message to friends on her Facebook page."
The message from Edwards, the wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards, reads:
"You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And, yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human.
"But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know."
Edwards was told by her doctors last week that additional cancer treatments were futile, said a source close to the family. Her prognosis was described in terms of weeks, not months, the source said.

Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died today after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

Edwards died at her family home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, according to a statement released by the family.
"Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth's presence but she remains the heart of this family," the statement said. "We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life."
Edwards was a mother, author and supporter of her husband through his two failed presidential runs. She also had to deal with his extramarital affair with former campaign videographer Rielle Hunter. Eventually he admitted he fathered a child with Hunter, after vehemently denying the allegation for months.
Just yesterday, the Edwards family released a statement saying that she wouldn't undergo any more cancer treatments because it would be unproductive.
Tonight we're also ‘Keeping Them Honest’ in Washington on the compromise reached by Pres. Obama and Republicans to extend Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy Americans for two more years. It was a major concession by Mr. Obama. As part of the deal, Republicans agreed to give Americans the option to file for extended federal unemployment benefits.
"It's not perfect," Pres. Obama said in an afternoon news conference, but "we cannont play politics at a time when the American people are looking for us to solve problems."
The overall cost of the deal is between $600 and $800 billion dollars over two years, according to CNN estimates.
Keeping them honest, remember all those promises of cutting the deficit? Well, analysts say this could very well increase the deficit. Pres. Obama has vowed to reign in debt and Republicans campaigned on the platform, as well.
