Cartoon Characters from the 80?s, 90?s and even 70?s Dominate Facebook

Perhaps some will be surprised by the current overflow of cartoon characters from the 70′s, cartoon characters from the 80′s and cartoon characters from the 90′s in Facebook. Why are they dominating Facebook nowadays? Actually the viral profile change from a human photo to a cartoon character was launched to promote a campaign against child abuse. Child abuse had been increasing at an alarming rate in recent years. In the United States alone the rise had jumped from double since the last year and in the Philippines there are more than 9,000 cases this year alone.

There are mix reactions regarding this campaign and though majority are joining some Facebook users are viewing it the other way around. “I don’t see how changing one’s profile into a cartoon character will in effect help stop child abuse,” says one user when we asked why he is not following the viral Facebook mode. Another user said, “I will do it in my own way but not by changing my profile photo.”

The campaign aims to make history by creating a no-human photo on Facebook by December 6, Monday. Though personally this is hard to do considering the more than 500 million users of Facebook, the organizers of the campaign are seeing it in a positive light. One advocate even said, “There might be those which will see this as lame but what is more lame, to join the campaign or to just do nothing about child abuse?”
