“In northern Delaware I expect it to start to fall as accumulating snow beginning around noon,” said Mark DeLisi a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. “In southern Delaware a few hours prior to that.”
A winter storm warning is now in effect until Monday afternoon. Forecasters began issuing stern warnings of heavy drifting snow, wind gusts up to 40 mph and travel conditions that will be “hazardous or impossible.”
“It’s going to get windy so it will be blowing and drifting snow,” DeLisi said, adding travel would become hazardous as it reduces visibility at times.
State transportation officials had skeleton crews and supervisors out overnight checking the road conditions statewide, said Jim Westhoff, a spokesman for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
